Edwin Pauley, class of 1923, and the Rockefeller Foundation provided funds to purchase in 1952 some 200 volumes of original, published narratives of the men who explored and settled the West from Charles B. Voorhis, a Pasadena Civic leader, who had collected the works over a period of 30 years. Subsequent to the purchase, Voorhis gave another 100 items to the collection.
